The plain steam vaporizer has been in medicine cabinets for decades because it is cheap, it has almost nothing to go wrong, and it works. Water boils, steam comes out, the room gets less dry and a blocked nose loosens up.

The tank takes a gallon and a half and covers rooms up to 600 square feet, which is larger than most bedrooms. There is a soft night light on the front, useful when this is running in a child's room. No filter, no wick, no cartridge — you rinse it out and refill it. A slot beside the steam outlet takes VapoSteam liquid or a VapoPad.

Same caution as any steam unit: the water is genuinely hot, so keep it on a stable surface away from where a child could reach the cord.
